Interested in helping backstage or behind the scenes?

We are always looking for tech crew members as well.  Please complete the audition form so we can collect your information. 

No audition required for tech crew.  You will start joining us at rehearsal in July (schedule to follow after cast announced).


Rehearsals will begin on June 10 and will be held Mon-Thurs. 4-8 PM at the Manchester Essex High School auditorium.

Tuition 2019 (Pay below)

Our tuition for summer 2019, $300, per participant, will include participation in 8 weeks of rehearsals and 4 shows, a well wisher ad for the Show Program, a show video, a show T shirt, and a 2019 Keepsake Book. Most lead costumes can be provided but a base costume will be expected from participants.

Tyler Garofalo continues as our Director and Choreographer. Tyler enjoys making magic happen onstage which was so evident in our past 2 productions: Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast.

Abby Frost will be returning to Summerstage this summer as Music Director, orchestra. Abby has been the Music Director for some of our favorite Summerstage productions including, The Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.

Sara Rhuda, will step up to fill the role of Music Director, vocal. Sara attends NYU Tisch’s School of The Arts and is studying musical theater. Sara has been involved in Summerstage as a performer, Choreographer and Assistant to the Directors.

Cast Rehearsals   

Be sure to contact out Stage Manager if you are going to miss rehearsals

Rehearsal Schedule coming in June.

Rehearsals will begin June 10, will be held at Manchester Essex High School  and are scheduled for Mon-Thurs 4-8 PM. All cast members are not called each rehearsal and typically younger cast members are released earlier. 

Cast members should be ready to work, no flip flops or open back sandals and comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and come with pencils  (no pens or markers please).

Cast should arrive a few minutes early to transition into rehearsal, we begin promptly at the time on the schedule.

Cast are expected to respect the rehearsal space, taking care of belongings, and trash. No gum please.

Techies & Artists Welcome 

Summerstage is looking for students who are interested in working in all areas behind the scenes too.

Fill out an audition form and select the option for working behind the scenes!

If you are new this is a great way to learn all that goes on behind the scenes in producing our show. You will help create props and sets, and more.

Middle and High School students- Do you play music? Are you an artist who can help design the set and props? Graphic artist? We can use you to design posters and the show book. Your talent is needed! Tech work is the perfect opportunity for people who don’t love being on stage. It is a fun way to earn community service too.

Parent FAQs

How does this program work?

Manchester Summerstage is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide opportunities in the arts for the youth of Manchester. It is run by a Board of Directors who oversee the program and make hiring decisions about the creative team.

Who is on the Board of Directors?

Wendy Sullivan President, Nancy Klebart Treasurer, Cathy Rhuda Vice President, Carolyn Vendt Secretary, Wendy Blackman Member at Large.

Student Ambassadors: Lizzy Klebart and Meredith Wolf, Lizzy is also participating as Assistant Secretary through fall 2019.

What are the goals of the program?

The current board wants to educate students in the many facets of putting on performances. This includes teaching not only acting, singing, and dancing to those children who want to be onstage, but also training students in music, art, sound, lighting, costuming, etc. for those that are more comfortable behind the scenes, in the pit, or in the lighting booth.

When will rehearsals be held?

Generally, rehearsals will be held between 4-8 PM on Monday through Thursday evenings. Different cast members are needed at different times. Please consult your rehearsal schedule for more specific details.

Manchester Essex Regional High School Auditorium.

When will I get a schedule?

Schedules will be presented at the parent informational meeting. They will also be distributed by email.

What does my child bring for rehearsals?

On the rehearsal schedule is a list of what supplies are needed for each rehearsal. Students should always bring water, a snack if they are there for an extended period of time, pencils, and any materials related to the show.

What if my child has to miss a rehearsal?

If your family has a conflict, that should have been noted on the audition form. If a new conflict arises, families should contact us

How many rehearsals can you miss?

Missing rehearsals for vacations, doctor’s appointments, illness, work and the like are considered excused absences. Families should make these conflicts known one week to 48 hours ahead of time. Any absence that is not relayed to the stage manager within the 48 hour limit will be considered unexcused. Students with three or more unexcused absences may lose out on front row spots or other additional opportunities.

What should we do if we miss a rehearsal?

Please check in with someone in your cast about what you missed. It is the performer’s responsibility to find out what material was covered and to learn it. Please note that the director, choreographer, and musical director may not be available to reteach items from previous rehearsals.

How much does it cost to participate in Manchester Summerstage?

The participation fee for Manchester Summerstage is $300, will include participation in 8 weeks of rehearsals and 4 shows, a well wisher ad for the Show Program, a show  vodeo, a show T shirt, and a 2019 Keepsake Book. Most lead costumes can be provided. A base costume will be expected from participants, (usually leggings and a t shirt).

What other expenses might come up?

We try to keep costs minimal. Families will be expected to provide a base costume, information on this will be provided. Show t-shirts, Keepsake Books & video of the show are included in the tuition cost. 

How can we help?

Families can participate in many ways which will be laid out at the parent informational meeting. Examples include ticket sales, costuming and make-up, set design, Fourth of July parade, concessions, flowers, etc. 

How do we purchase tickets?

Tickets will be available starting in July. They can be purchased at rehearsals or at the door.

What is the cost of tickets?

Adult tickets are $12. Tickets for children aged 12 and younger are $8.

When is the show?

The show will be performed the last weekend of July. On Thursday, July 25th, Friday, July 26th, Saturday July 27th the show begins at 6 PM. We are also offering a Sunday Matinee on July 28th at 2 PM.

What will be available at the show?

Concessions, flowers, and t shirts will be for sale at the show. They will be sold at intermission and after the show.

What are the expectations?

At rehearsals, students will be expected to begin work at the time listed on the schedule. Please arrive early to include time to transition into rehearsal. Students should wear appropriate clothing and shoes for dancing and moving. No flipflops or backless sandals please. Students may not chew gum. Students should be prepared to work at rehearsal. This includes listening and following directions. If asked to prepare anything, students should have material ready. Students will leave phones at the door of rehearsal. Phones can only be used as tools at the discretion of the directors and at the end of rehearsal to arrange pick up.
